5 Signs You Should Engage in Personal Training

Is personal training worth it? Why should I choose personal training over group classes or exercising on my own?

If you’re on the fence about engaging in personal training, here are 5 signs that may just encourage you to try it.

1. Lack of Results

Exercising consistently yet not seemingly getting anywhere can be really demoralising. Exercising is tough, it requires focus, physical exertion, and even takes time out from our busy schedules. So when we don’t have results to show for our hard work, we tend to avoid it.

But instead of avoiding it, personal training can help you get the results that you’re looking for.

Personal trainers can customise a program for you that is individualised to your goals and your needs. Not only that, they can help to keep you motivated and push you to do your best at each session.

2. Need of Motivation

Motivation is difficult when you have so many other things on your plate that exercising can sound too exhausting to even think about.

Without someone to hold you accountable, you start skipping days, then skipping weeks, and before you know it you don’t even remember the last time you exercised.

A trainer can help to take into account your schedule and design simple programs that you can do even when you are unable to make it for your weekly session. They can help you learn the basics such as types of training, intensity and frequency so that you know exactly what to do!

3. Need to Be Challenged

Doing the same thing every week can be repetitive and boring, and it may even come to a point where you feel like there isn’t a “kick” to it compared to when you first started.

Not sure what to do? Well, a personal trainer does! They can guide you to safely progress your workout routine and even find new ways to help you improve so you’ll always be challenged.

If all else fails, the pressure of having a personal trainer standing over you while you exercise will definitely encourage you to not slack off.

4. Present Pre-existing Conditions

Pre-existing conditions can come in different forms, whether it’s an injury or a medical condition, or even physical changes such as pregnancy.

In this case, seeking a professional for your exercise is always the answer. Exercise puts stress on our body, and the subsequent recovery makes it stronger. But if our body cannot keep up with the stress, it may break down our body more than building it up.

Personal trainers have the knowledge and the experience to know what you can and cannot do, and also to do it safely so as to not worsen the pre-existing condition or put your life at risk.

Do ensure that when choosing your personal trainer that they are familiar with your condition and have your doctor’s approval before going ahead.

5. Training for a Competition or Event

Training for something is completely different from general health and fitness.

If you are training for something, getting a personal trainer is always a good idea because they can direct you to exercises that are most suitable for your event.

That is just one part of it, creating a suitable training schedule, avoiding injury and even nutrition and recovery advice can be given to maximise your performance.

So, do any of these sound like you?
